Albert Edwards – Scholarship Recipient

Volunteers Needed for Black College Expo

Brothers,
We need you to work at the booth on Saturday for the Black College Expo. Please join us to represent Morehouse to a new generation of students who need to understand what their future can hold. This is a great opportunity to share your story, to influence young minds and to give back to the community and the chapter. We will have a double booth this year (I got them to donate it) and we will also be asking current students to assist us. Bring a partner. This is always a great deal of fun. The Expo starts at 9:00 AM and we need workers for the morning (9:00) and 12:00 PM and later. Let me know when you can work. The dress code is up to you. Just represent the college well.

Alumni Survey Results

Results from our recent survey can be found here: http://MorehouseLA1.speedsurvey.com/report.aspx

To those who took time to respond, we thank you for your input. As a group, you can see the areas we are all interested in improving.

Out of the nearly 200 names on our mailing list, approximately 80 opened this survey. Disappointedly, only 29 chose to take 3 mins. to complete the survey. These numbers are not good. They show the high level of apathy present in our alumni. We encourage you to be active on a consistent basis. Also, hold each other to a high standard. A little of your time each month will allow us to make a difference in our community. We can do better. As Morehouse Men, it is our duty.

Delta Sigma Theta:Support a Scholarship Fundraiser: Harbor Cruise Final Information

The first Orange County Alumnae Chapter Delta Holiday Harbor Cruise is rapidly approaching. The event is this Friday, November 30, 2007. The cost is $100.00 per person.

The Orange County Alumnae Chapter has been hard at work preparing an elegant holiday cruise experience. The cruise is on-board the yacht “Electra”. Upon entering the yacht, you and your guest will be greeted by the staff and served chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. You will then have an opportunity to take a complimentary photo, which will be printed during the cruise and given to you as a keepsake for the evening. You will dine on a succulent meal and dance the evening away to the sounds of N the Groove Productions.

The cruise line office address is 3439 Via Oporto in Lido Marina Village Newport Beach, CA. From the cruise line office, walk across the brick street to the boardwalk until you see the yacht “Electra.” Look for the Red & White Balloons to guide the way. Parking is $10.00

Please plan to arrive dockside at 6:00 P.M. Boarding begins as 6:45 PM, and departs promptly at 7:00 P.M. The yacht will return at 10:45 P.M.

This is the Orange County Alumnae Chapter’s first fundraiser for the sorority year. It is not too late to join us on the yacht.

If you wish to attend, please email Tonya Whiteside at tlwhiteside@hotmail.com as soon as possible and bring your $100.00 per person cash or check payment with you to yacht.

Dr. Pryor and the war effort. Nov 28, 2007

The war to get to the war is trying. I am still at Lejeune waiting. My first day here was smooth sailing. Needed an anthrax shot and a smallpox shot and that was basically it. Except you have to wait a week to see if the smallpox took before they release you to go to your unit. So that was a whole week of catching up on emails and twiddling my thumbs. I did go to Winston-Salem to see my sister over the weekend.
When I got back Monday, smooth sailing. Got the smallpox cleared and got to my unit that afternoon and was told that they went over in AUG! Needless to say I got my orders in OCT. The orders were for a GMO(General Medical Officer),sooooooooooooo now that they know I am a surgeon they are trying to find a spot for me. Of course nothing happened last week because of Thanksgiving. I did go back to Winston and my brother and youngest nephew drove up from ATL.
Now I am back waiting and twiddling more thumbs. The latest, get this....I was supposed to be with II MEF(Marine Expeditionary Force based at Lejeune). It seems that I MEF can use me. Where is I MEF? Moth*&^%$#@ng Camp Pendleton!!! They may send me back home to send me to Iraq! And I thought your administration was chaotic(just kidding, a little). Anyway, sorry for the wordiness, but that is the latest. Tell all I said hello and will keep everyone posted.
By the way, I did complete the survey.

Fine tune your inner warrior. paintball the day after Thanksgiving 11/23

Gentlemen,
The day after Thanksgiving can find you sitting around the house, rubbing your sizeable and well-fed stomachs, watching an all-day law & Order Marathon on Bravo, or you can reach deep within yourself to find that ZULU-Masai-mau mau or Navy Seal soldier within, and embrace it! Even if only for one day. Or just come out with the fellas and fellowship with a wholesome day of paint enabled mobile target artillery practice. Last year, I went out with a group on the day after thanksgiving and we had an awesome time. This year, I want to give you guys a shot at the ol' GLAMMA president (me, but I shoot back) and give us all a great team building experience.
The location will be Hollywood Sports in Bellflower, http://www.hollywoodsports.com/, and we want to meet there at 10AM in the morning. If we can get a large enough group, including your guests, we can go into the courses alone with a private ref. Please let me know if you are interested and if you would like to bring somebody. The cost is about $20-25 for all day, and gear is included.
I also want to thank everybody for coming out to the going away party for Dr. Pryor. It was a great event, and we probably had nearly 200 people come through, including our Alumni, and other guests. I appreciate your outpouring for Jonathan. He was sincerely touched. And, maybe a little bit drunk, as well. Our next chapter meeting will be the 11/30. The location is TBD
